Preparing For Animal Crossing New Horizons Bug Off Event
Before the Bug Off begins, there are a few things we can do to ensure we have a more effective Bug Off. These simple checklist items can help.
1. Make sure there is a flower bed near Flick's eventual setup in front of Resident Services
2. Try making a tree stump or two near those flower beds to encourage tree stump spawns
3. Prepare any rotten turnips for ants
4. Make extra nets and place them near Resident Services
5. If you have guests joining your Bug off, place the workbench near Resident Services
6. Gather additional net crafting materials
Summary: Try to make your island as easy to traverse as possible for faster bug hunting on the big day.
How To Enter The Bug Off Event In Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
The event is hosted by Flick. On the day of the Bug-Off, we first need to visit Flick who is in front of the Resident Services, and then talk to Flick to learn how the Bug-Off works. But not all times of the day are available, Flick is only accepting Bug Off entries between 9 am and 6 pm.
Additionally, players can participate an unlimited number of times per Bug-Off event day. The day's first event is free, but there is an entry fee of 500 Animal Crossing Bells for each subsequent event. But if we play with friends, all entries are free.
How Does The ACNH Bug Off Event Work?
When the event starts, Animal Crossing New Horizons players will have 3 minutes to catch as many bugs as possible, each bug caught will earn you 1 point, but if players capture 3 or more bugs within this time, an additional 2 points will be awarded.
During the Bug Off event, all bugs players caught are automatically transported to Flick's bug cage, then the player can choose whether to keep or sell them. If you choose to sell, you can sell the bug directly from the cage to Flick for 1.5 times their normal selling price. Note that you cannot start a new attempt until the cage is cleared.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bug-Off Event Rewards
Players' accumulated total points from Bug Off Event can be exchanged with Flick for various prizes at any time. There are 13 exclusive prizes in total, and the prizes that players get each time are random, and 10 points are needed to exchange them. Below are all the prizes offered during the event.
Artisanal Bug Cage
Bug Aloha Shirt
Bug Cage
Bug Wand
Butterfly Backpack
Butterfly Wall
Ladybug Rug
Ladybug Umbrella
Spider Doorplate
Termite Mound
Toy Centipede
Toy Cockroach
Spider Web
In addition to these 13 prizes, players can also earn special trophies for collecting a specific number of points. For 100 points, players will receive a Bronze Trophy. For 200 points, players will receive a Silver Trophy. For 300 points, players will receive a Gold Trophy.
Considering that each player accumulates points at a different rate, depending on skill, the 100 points take about an hour. But not everyone can catch bugs for hours on end, so when you find yourself stuck with no trophy points for the day, you can extend your Bug Off time by quitting the game and setting the Switch's internal clock back a few hours. However, if you continue to the next day or the previous day, your total points will be lost.
